Silent opening of the Tokyo Olympics

The Olympic Games began in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, with a simple opening ceremony, which was absent from the masses, and took place under strict restrictions to limit the spread of the Corona pandemic.

The Olympic Stadium hosted the ceremony that announced the official launch of the Olympic Games, a year after the original date and months of hesitation due to the repercussions of the Corona pandemic.

The ceremony was held without the presence of fans, and it will be the case during the competitions of the session, which will continue until August 8.

Without the usual group choreography, huge props, abundance of dancers, actors and lights associated with past festivities, Emperor Naruhito of Japan announced the start of the tournament during the ceremony, which included limited performances and a review of the delegations of the participating countries.

Most of the groups marched quietly with flags waving, but the Argentine delegation was noisy and jumped excitedly during the parade.

The ceremony was attended by a number of eminent personalities, including Jill Biden, the first lady of the United States, and French President Emmanuel Macron, whose country will host the next edition of the Olympics in 2024, as well as a number of representatives of sponsors and the media.

The Olympic Games will witness more than 11,000 athletes compete in 339 competitions for 33 different sports, and the tournament will be the largest global sporting event with an audience of hundreds of millions expected on television.
