A UN report revealed that Russia, which supports Damascus forces, had participated in war crimes committed in Syria in the previous period between July 2019 and January 10, 2020. The report concluded that there is evidence that Russian aircraft participated in two raids in Idlib that did not target any military sites. Killed scores of civilians. The charges also included the "Syrian National Army" supported by Ankara, which, according to the report, could bear responsibility if it learned of the crimes committed without taking measures to stop them.

A report of United Nations investigators on Monday accused Russia of participating in war crimes by carrying out air strikes in Syria, targeting civilians. In this regard, the report talks about a period leading up to the recent turmoil between July 2019 and January 10, 2020.

The accusations come amid tensions between Turkey and the Syrian-backed Syrian forces, following the escalation of clashes in Idlib province, the last militant stronghold.

The Commission of Inquiry on the Human Rights Situation in Syria, established by the United Nations in 2011, also said in its most recent report that it had evidence that Russian aircraft participated in two air strikes in Idlib in July and August, killing more than 60 people.

The report spoke of evidence that Russian aircraft participated in the attacks and that, as they were not against military targets, they amounted to a "war crime".
