Real Madrid clinched the top of the 26th round of the Spanish Football League when they won in their rivals El Clásico and Barcelona, 2-0, from the record of Vinicius Junior and Mariano Diaz, to regain the lead with 55 points.
On Sunday, Real Madrid showed their character and beat Barcelona 2-0 in the Spanish El Clásico match to take the top spot in the league.
Young Brazilian Vinicius Junior scored the first goal for the Royal Club in the 71st minute, and substitute Mariano Diaz added the second goal, moments after stoppage time, to clinch the victory of the hosts.
Real lost to Levante in the last round of the league and then stumbled at home to Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League round sixteen, but it appeared strongly on Sunday and threatened Barcelona's goal more than once before scoring twice in the second half.
Zinedine Zidane's team leads the league with 56 points from 26 games, while Barcelona fell to second place with 55 points.
