CAF Champions League: Zamalek of Egypt wins the semi-finals at the expense of Esperance

The Tunisian club Esperance failed on Friday to pass its Egyptian guest Zamalek to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League, despite scoring for a clean goal. But his defeat in going with three goals versus one goal forced him to leave the competition in the quarter-finals, while Zamalek grabbed the traffic visa for the next round.

Despite the early goal he scored in the fifth minute of a penalty kick carried out by Algerian Bilal Ben Saada, Esperance Tunisia on Friday, in its match against Egyptian Zamalek, was unable to continue his career in the African Champions League, to leave the competition in the quarter-finals.

Zamalek managed to emerge victorious from this confrontation, as it did on February 14, when it won the African Super Cup in Doha at the expense of the same Tunisian club by beating it 3-1.

The match took place in a charged atmosphere and the defending champion fought in many absences, as a result of the harsh penalties imposed by the Continental Federation ("K") against the backdrop of events in the first leg.

The disciplinary committee of CAF suspended coach Espérance El-Chaâbani and his assistant, Magdy Taroui, for four games with a fine of $ 20,000, due to his “aggressive behavior and use of insulting words for the match’s rulers,” and to the second 50 thousand dollars because of his “aggressive behavior towards the referees and his use of aggressive words and threats,” and preventing Team captain Khalil Shammam from playing six games and fined 40 thousand dollars due to insulting words and spitting on the match officials, and Algerian Abdel Raouf bin Ghaith for four games with a fine of 20 thousand dollars for "using aggressive words against the referees."

Zamalek, seeking to crown the continental title that has been absent from its vaults since 2002 when it won for the fifth time in its history, will meet in the quarter-final winner of Saturday's confrontation between Congolese Mazembe and Morocco's Oval Raja (0-2 back).
