The Russian Gazprom Group said that it will suspend the gas shipments it exports to the French group Engie, starting from the first Thursday of September, due to the failure of "Enge" to pay the dues of the gas shipments it received in July, until it receives its full dues. ENGIE Group declined to comment on Gazprom's decision.
The Russian group, Gazprom, announced on Tuesday that it will completely suspend its gas shipments to the French group Engie, as of Thursday, because the latter has not paid the full price of the gas shipments it received last July.
The Russian group said in a statement published on Tuesday evening on its Telegram account, that "Gazprom Export informed Engie to suspend all of its gas shipments as of September 1, 2022, until it receives the full amounts of money due for the shipments."
Under a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the end of March, Gazprom clarified that "it is prohibited to deliver additional quantities of natural gas to a foreign buyer if this buyer does not pay the full price within the time limit specified in the contract." Gazprom confirmed that, as of Tuesday evening, it had not received the full amounts due for the July shipments.
Agence France-Presse contacted the Engy Group on Tuesday evening, and it refused to comment on what Gazprom announced.
On Tuesday morning, Engy announced that it was informed by Gazprom of an additional and immediate reduction of its gas shipments "due to a dispute between the parties over the implementation of contracts."
The group recalled that it had already taken measures to be able to supply its customers even in the event of a halt in Gazprom's shipments.
Russian gas shipments to the French group have declined significantly since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine.
In response to Western sanctions imposed on Moscow following its invasion of Ukraine, Russia has repeatedly reduced its gas shipments to Europe.
