India has set a world record in the number of daily infections with the Coronavirus, as it announced on Sunday that 78,761 people were infected with the disease within 24 hours, an increase of more than a thousand infections from the previous record number recorded by the United States on July 17, which amounted to 77,638.

On Sunday, India witnessed the registration of 78,761 new cases of Coronavirus within 24 hours, which is a new global record.

The previous record was recorded on July 17 in the United States and reached 77,638 new infections, according to data collected by the French News Agency.

India is officially the third country in the world in terms of the number of HIV infections and comes after the United States and Brazil, with 3.5 million people infected with the disease. In total, the epidemic has claimed 63,000 lives in India.

This record outcome was announced the day after the Indian government once again eased restrictions in effect since March to combat the outbreak.

The decision was taken to try to revive the economy, while millions of Indians lost their jobs.

India's Home Ministry said that, from September, gatherings of up to 100 people for cultural, sports and political events will be allowed again.
