Corona Virus: The number of deaths in France rises to 2606, recording nearly 300 new deaths within 24 hours

Within 24 hours, France on Sunday recorded 292 new deaths from the Corona virus, raising the total death toll in this country to 2606, according to Director-General of Health Jerome Salomon. Salomon denounced some citizens' lack of respect for quarantine measures, saying "if isolation measures were respected," the country would witness a decline in the number of injured people.

The Director General of Health, Jerome Salomon, announced on Sunday that he recorded 292 additional deaths from Corona virus in France within 24 hours, raising the total death toll in this country to 2606.

According to the new toll, 19,354 injured people are in hospitals, among them 4,632 are in the intensive care department, while seven thousand and 132 patients have been able to return to their homes.

In an attempt to curb the spread of the virus, the authorities announced the extension of the public quarantine announced on March 17, for at least two more weeks, until April 15.

"359 people have entered the recovery today. It is the most important element because it reflects the dynamics of the epidemic," Salomon said.

The problem of respecting isolation procedures and 40 million mask weekly

"If the isolation measures were respected, we would have seen a decrease in the number of people being transferred to resuscitation by the end of the week," he added.

And 34 percent of these are over sixty years old, while sixty in resuscitation are under the age of thirty.

The announced death toll includes only those who died in hospitals, which means that the actual number is still unknown.

100 tons of medical equipment

In light of the great lack of protective masks, which sparked controversy in the country, Paris asked China to provide more than a billion mask.

Air France announced that a plane landed Sunday evening at Roissy Airport from China, carrying about 100 tons of medical equipment, including 5.5 million protective masks.

Health Minister Olivier Ferrand said that the medical teams need 40 million masks a week, noting that France’s production of these masks every week is about eight million.
