Italy counted 475 new deaths within 24 hours, marking a record increase in the number of deaths in this country since the start of the Coruna epidemic, with a total of 2,978 deaths, according to a new toll released today Wednesday by the Civil Protection Authority.
The head of the Italian Civil Protection Authority, Angelo Borelli, told a press conference in Rome that the number of cases of this virus in the country reached 35,713.
Borelli pointed out that Lombardy in the Milanese region remains the worst affected by the outbreak of the Corona virus, with 1,959 deaths recorded, followed by Emilia Romagna 458 and Piedmonte 154 deaths.
Of the total of those infected and who do not have any symptoms, 12,090 people are enrolled in voluntary home quarantine, while 14,363 patients with symptoms of the disease are under medical care in hospitals, in addition to 2,257 patients receiving treatment in intensive care.
Borelli noted that 4,025 people among the injured were recovering.
